I love photography…. I love the craft of it!! I love having the knowledge of how to step into any lighting situation and knowing what to do. I strongly believe if you are a photographer, you should know how your ISO, shutter speed and aperture all work together. Whether it is my camera, my speed lights, or another piece of my fantastic equipment…. Manual settings are always the way to go (except for focus, that’s an auto thing).
Brian DeMint, throws all of my preconceived concepts of photography out the window, and I love it!! Brian comes from a fine art background, but rocks the fashion photography world!! With his minimalistic amount of photography equipment (his lighting being shop lights he picked up at Wal-mart), and his dollar store props, he creates images I could only dream of.
Brian pulls from the elements of art to create his high fashion images. These elements are: color, form, line, shape, space, texture and value. Fine artists, not only from the past, but also from the present, influence him. His knowledge of studio lighting comes from his art-history/painting background… and I’m pretty sure he is better at it than I am (I need to step up my game: http://digital-photography-school.com/6-portrait-lighting-patterns-every-photographer-should-know/)
I love that with Brian’s, self-expressed, limited knowledge of photography he can make images the rest of us strive to compete with!! I’m not sure anyone else could hold my attention, or could pull off what he does, but the man himself! Thanks, Brian, for imparting your in-depth fine art knowledge with us…. And for going through the actual working steps of how you create your images.
